Why families matter

Knowing the family you like narrows thousands of perfumes down to a few dozen worth sampling.

Fresh and citrus

Light, clean, often good for daytime and warm weather.

Floral

The largest family: rose, jasmine, and white florals. Ranges from soft to very strong.

Woody and amber

Warmer, deeper scents with sandalwood, cedar, vanilla and resins. Often favored in cold weather.

Gourmand

Sweet, edible notes like vanilla, caramel and coffee.
